Features Pioneer AR

The artwork brings the long lost seafaring train known as ‘the daddy long legs’ from Brighton back to life through the magic of augmented reality, and can be viewed via a smartphone app called “Pioneer AR” available for iPhones and Android Devices.Famous Brighton-based Victorian inventor Magnus Volk designed the electric train ‘the Daddy Long Legs’ (real name the Pioneer) and it ran through the coastal waters along Brighton seafront, from Banjo Groyne (opposite Paston Place) to Rottingdean from 1896 and 1901.After downloading the app users can walk along the seafront on the pavement, the app will guide them to head east towards Kemptown, the original journey Pioneer travelled and experience the geo-tagged artwork travel alongside them in the sea.
Brighton Marina is a particularly good place to explore it, and heading down to the rockpools in low tide towards Roedean and Ovingdean on the undercliff path. For those who cannot make it to Brighton beach “Pioneer AR” can also be installed and triggered from the postcard option from main menu, using the special free postcard available via the project website and from :PHOENIX ART SPACE ( cafe and gallery )10–14 Waterloo PlaceBrighton, BN2 9NBandLighthouse28 Kensington StreetBrightonBN1 4AJThe exhibition was generously supported by Arts Council England.
